It's Not About YOU
Key Verse: “But the story we're given is a God-story, not an Abraham-story.” Romans 4:2
I enter into what God is doing for me. So when I enter the door of my home or company what is my day all about really? Am I entering into what He is doing for me or what I am doing for myself? Is it about me feeling good, looking good and getting the goods? Or is about Him, His pleasure and His purpose?
What is my core motivation?
As Jesus said, ”If one comes after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me”. What motivates me to follow this mandate? Is it a better quality of life, more financial and relational success, fewer hassles to deal with in my family and business? Is it essentially a pay-off for me and my interest?
“For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.” Phil. 2:23
I must acknowledge my self-centered ness that the Spirit’s illumination provides. It is not about me and my world. There is actually a term for my self-centeredness:
“A solipsist is one who believes that the universe revolves around them. They are at the center of the universe and all the other things that are happening are happening around them”. It is all about me and my desires.
I ask to ask myself another question, “When Jesus Christ entered my life, what was that about? Could the purpose be about the beginning of a God-story and me as a supporting actor of his mercy and grace in this life long drama?”
To what extent are my core motivations aligned with his? Is it about Him or essentially about me?
THINK ABOUT IT:
When was the last time you made a decision that placed Jesus Christ’s interest ahead of yours that cost you?
Name an act of service that disrupted your availability to fulfill your plans?
Give an instance where you said no to a purchase you really wanted to give to a kingdom project?
