A Nobody Becomes a Somebody
Key Verse:
“We call Abraham "father" not because he got God's attention by living like a saint, but because God made something out of Abraham when he was a nobody.” – Rom. 4:17
OUR ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION FOR SERVICE.
Let’s look at the lives of three men. How did they start out and how did their lives end? God does what He is famous for.
Abram was a nobody. He was a refugee in Egypt comprising his wife sexually to save himself. At the end of his life, Abraham was the father of many nations.
Moses was a nobody. He was a Jewish slave baby ordered by Pharaoh to be killed. In the end, he leads Israel for 40 years in the wilderness and delivered the 10 Commandments.
David was a nobody in the family of Jesse and his sons. He tended the sheep and not considered a candidate for Samuel, the prophet’s anointing. Later he became the greatest Israelite King who unites Israel, makes provision for the temple construction. His life story instructs and inspires us today.
HOW DOES GOD SELECT HIS SERVANTS?
“For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.” – 1 Cor. 1:26
WHY DOES GOD TAKE THIS NOBODY APPROACH?
“God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.” – 1 Cor. 1:28
OUR ENCOURAGEMENT
We are qualified. He can use us for his purpose and honor when we are a nobody and have nothing to offer Him.
We can serve. Through His mercy and grace, He raises us up and equips us. He makes us competent ministers of influence in His Kingdom.
We are triumphant. He chooses and empowers us. He gives us purpose, meaning and responsibility to fulfill our calling in His Kingdom that transcends our stress, suffering, and malevolence we experience in life.
Think on these things.
What could be your next potent step in your service to Him?
