-1 John 4:17 ESV
How do I travel from my head knowledge of God’s love to a heartfelt deep knowing of His love? If I have a $10 million inheritance and I have the legal and financial documents to prove my riches, but never experience its benefits through use, what good is my knowledge of my riches to my well being?
Likewise, if I know about His love and have the biblical revelation to prove His affection what good is this knowledge if I do not experience His love in my daily affairs? Because if I relax in his steadfast love, for example, I will worship rather than worry. I will trust in the midst of my storm rather than panic because I know His love for me personally.
In the gospel story, the disciples with Jesus were crossing the Sea of Galilee when a storm arose that threaten their lives. Jesus was asleep. The disciples said, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm”
They did not "know and believe the love of God” in this storm. They broke faith in His love and disbelieved His care for them.
Jesus could have been offended because they questioned the sincerity of His love for them. But he did not but dealt directly with their issues that were threatening to the disciples’ well-being.
How can I deepen my belief and conviction in His love that anchors me in the storms that will come?
“Ask and you will receive.”
